Magali Dien (France, 1958) lives and works in Amsterdam since 1995.
Her work includes both paintings (acrylic on canvas) and sculptures (wooden objects, maskers) . Since the last years, however, the 3-D work has become more important.
Magali Dien combines figurative and abstract elements to create a dynamic contrast. She likes to use pure forms and bright colors. Her subject-matter ranges from portrait to human figure and is mostly expressed in a lyric way.
For the wooden objects, she gets her inspiration from organic forms which she integrates with other materials and strong colors. The challenge is then to keep the uniqueness of each material within one composition.
Her extensive travels are an important source of inspiration.
